
Sean McCaffrey's Irish U17 side booked their place in the UEFA Championship, elite qualifying phase in Bulgaria last month when they finished top of group 6 which included hosts, Bulgaria, Latvia and Sweden. The young Boys in Green began their qualification quest with a remarkable 2-1 victory over Bulgaria with goals courtesy of Frankie Sutherland and a last minute effort from Daniel Purdy while the Irish needed another late goal from substitute Aidan O'Brien to defeat a stubborn Latvian side 1-0. Ireland rounded off the qualification series with a 0-0 draw with Sweden to ensure that the Irish advanced to the elite qualifying stage as group winners.
