FEATURE | McKevitt key to Bohemians' Cup dreams

Sarah McKevitt is back to her best. That is fantastic news for Bohemians and bad news for Cork City.

The Gypsies meet The Leesiders in the Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup Quarter-Finals on Saturday and McKevitt could well turn out to be the most important player on the pitch.

Cork know all about the Limerick native as she started her career in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division at Turner's Cross but she is now in the red and black stripes and driven by a desire to make up for lost time.

Injuries have meant that McKevitt's time in the domestic game has been stop-start. However, she is very much operating on 'all systems go' right now for Bohs as part of a new-look team under Ken Kiernan.

Able to play wide on either the right or left flank, McKevitt is one part of a triple threat attack that also includes Katie Malone and Alannah McEvoy. The trio have combined for exactly half of their team's total of goals scored in the League so far this season.

This weekend though is all about the Cup. Bohs reached the quarter-finals of the competition last year but will be hoping to advance past that round and take a giant leap towards getting to the Final in Tallaght Stadium.

The Women's FAI Cup is a special competition. It is also one that Kiernan knows could be something that they can win - three victories will do it. They are too far behind in the League to challenge for the title but lifting the Cup should be a dream that motivates them.

If they are to advance towards that then getting the best out of McKevitt will be crucial. She is a clever player who makes things happen for her team with her electric pace and ability to link play in the final third of the pitch.

With Malone and McEvoy also active off the ball, Bohs have a fluid attacking approach that can be difficult to box in. It is McKevitt, though, who holds the key to unlocking their true potential as she can turn a game in a moment.

The Cup dream is a real one for Bohs. So they need to make sure that they can give McKevitt a leading role against Cork in their quarter-final duel.
