Feature | WNT players on the move

It has been a busy summer for a lot of the Ireland Women’s National Team players with many joining new clubs.

With WNT Head Coach Eileen Gleeson already planning for the upcoming EURO 2025 Qualifying Play-Offs, players will be keen to catch the eye and get as much game-time as possible at club level.

The transfer business started earlier in the summer as Éabha O’Mahony finished up at Texas University, Roma McLaughlin ended her time with Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark and Kate Mooney left Hearts as all three joined Shelbourne.

Midfielder Denise O’Sullivan extended her contract with North Carolina Courage, while others decided to make new moves.

Here are the main transfers that have taken place:

Sophie Whitehouse
Age:
27
Position: Goalkeeper
Transfer: Lewes to Charlton Athletic
Following a couple of years with Lewes, Whitehouse has taken on a new challenge by joining Championship side Charlton. She will be competing with Jessica Gray for a starting spot.

Naoisha McAloon
Age: 25
Position: Goalkeeper
Transfer: Durham WFC to Burnley
The former Peamount United shot-stopper has taken on a new challenge in England by linking up with Burnley, who play in the National League North and have ambitions to reach the Women's Championship.

Jessie Stapleton
Age:
19
Position: Centre-Back
Transfer: West Ham United to Sunderland (on loan)
After spending the second part of last season on loan with Reading, the Dubliner has now moved to the north east of England to line out for the Black Cats.

Megan Connolly
Age:
27
Position: Midfield
Transfer: Bristol City to Lazio
A new country. A new challenge. Connolly has switched to Serie A side Lazio after one season as Bristol City captain and five with Brighton & Hove Albion in England.

Ciara Grant
Age:
31
Position: Midfield
Transfer: Hearts to Hibernian
Now onto her third different club in Scotland, the Donegal girl is aiming to impress for Hibs having joined from Edinburgh rivals Hearts and previously playing for Rangers.

Niamh Farrelly
Age:
25
Position: Midfield
Transfer: London City Lionesses to Peamount United
Stops in Scotland (Glasgow City), Italy (Parma) and England (London City) have led midfielde ace Farrelly back to where it all began at her beloved Peamount.

Erin McLaughlin
Age:
21
Position: Midfield / Forward
Transfer: Peamount United to Portsmouth
A move to full-time football is what tempted McLaughlin to Portsmouth, where she scored twice on her home debut in a pre-season friendly and will be hoping to learn fast.

Aoife Colvill
Age: 23
Position: Midfield / Forward
Transfer: Glasgow City to Standard Liege
This Australian-born attacker is now a club-mate of Amber Barrett and Claire O'Riordan in Belgium. The one-cap WNT international is aiming to get her career back on track following injuries.

Saoirse Noonan
Age:
25
Position: Forward
Transfer: Durham WFC to Celtic
Two seasons with Durham helped Noonan adjust to playing abroad but she now wants to embrace the opportunity of excelling in Scotland. Two goals on her debut was a good start.
