Leixlip United earn FAI Club Mark Award

The hard work has paid off at Leixlip United after they were presented with the FAI Club Mark Award.

Based in County Kildare, the club was found in 1969 and grown from strength to strength since then.

With 745 members, the club caters for 32 boys and 6 girls teams in the DDSL and MGL. They are also preparing to introduce a Special Olympics team.

Leixlip United have always been viewed as a progressive club - they have a long history in women's football, for example - and their plans to add a new All-Weather Pitch is matched y the apppointment of Robbie Fay as their Director of Football.

"This club does not exist without all our volunteers - be that managing, coaching or committee - and to each and every one of them we are hugely indebted," said Paul Martin, Chairman.

The club has recieved a lot of attention on the back of former player Andrew Omobamidele making his Republic of Ireland MNT and Premier League debut. But they continue to work just as hard to develop players for years to come.

Whether it is on or off the pitch, Leixlip United have made huge strides to become a club that services its local community in the best possible way. And that's why they have recieved the FAI Club Mark Award.

The FAI Club Mark is free and optional for clubs and aims to:

  • Improve the management of clubs ‘off the field’
  • Establish and promote best practice
  • Empower and support clubs
  • Recognise and reward clubs for achieving high standards
  • Increase a club’s capacity to operate effectively and grow football in communities throughout Ireland.
