Manager Interviews
Mayo Football League manager Chris McGauley said: “We’re in good fettle and we’re looking forward to the final.
“The big moment for us was coming through the penalty shootout in Galway. It was played at Eamon Deacy Park and perhaps playing at that stadium got to a couple of the players a bit, but following that result I saw the lads grow.
“To win the trophy would be massive for soccer in Mayo. It’s on the rise in Mayo and to win would be a big boost to the county. We’ve always had good players in this part of the world but they’ve been dragged to other sports but I said to the boys that playing in this competition is an opportunity to show people in Irish football what they can do and they’ve really responded to that.
“It’ll be a great occasion, it would be great to see all the clubs in Mayo come out and support their players and the league and get behind football in Mayo.”
Louis Nolan, manager of Cork Youth League, added: “We’re in the final because of the ability and attitude of the lads. They’re a superb bunch, and we have quality throughout the team from 1 to 23. The depth is frightening, we can make changes and feel we’re stronger and that’s a huge benefit to us.
“We wanted to make a statement in every game. You win championships with clean sheets and have produced great defensive performances on the way. The lads have put teams to the sword, they’re perfectionists, they work hard on the training pitches and put it to practice in the games.
“Our message to the lads is, it’s another game for us, we’re expecting a tough game from Mayo, they’ll be wanting to put their stamp on the game but all we’ve asked is for them to give a performance and the rest will take itself.
“I encourage people to come out and watch. The work going on at schoolboy level in Cork is superb and if you want to see some stars of the future this is the match to see.”
