Manager Interview: College Corinthians manager Gary Hackett
“I can’t wait, I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great occasion for the club and I’m looking forward to just getting stuck in.
“The knock-out format of the competition brings a different energy to the group and it’s a prestigious tournament and the draw gets the juices flowing and the heart rates going, so it’s great. Even if your team is knocked out through the years, you would still tune into the draw because it brings a massive focus on local football here in Cork, ‘who do this team get? Who do that team get?’ It’s great.
“It's a nice break from the league, we’ve been finding it tough the first half of the season with injuries, but the cup competition has been great for us, so far, and we find ourselves in the final.
“It will be an amazing day. The final is in Cork, it’ll be a big crowd here. It will be a great day out and a lot of people will be looking forward to it.”
Manager Interview: Ringmahon Rangers manager Aidan Foley
"Yeah, it's great. Back to back finals is a great achievement and it's a credit to the lads but this year, we're obviously hoping to go one better and secure the trophy. It was a great experience last year going up there to Drogheda with the support we had, we loved it but it'll be different this year playing at Turner's Cross and to have that occasion here, it's all about putting our hands on the trophy.
"To have it in Cork is going to be more special and I know myself and the team are looking forward to it massively. This year, we're more experienced having had that final last year. We were so hurt over losing it, it shows the character to get back this year.
"It's definitely one for a neutral coming on Saturday, two local teams with a good style of football looking to play and it shows the strength of the teams coming from the Munster Senior League at the moment.
"It's very strong, over the last few years, you can see it growing and what Rockmount did and Avondale dominating before that so it's brilliant for Cork football and shows the talent the area is producing and the league being able to showcase that talent in the national competitions."
Captain Interview: College Corinthians captain Craig Donnellan
"There’s a good buzz around the club and everyone is coming up and wishing us the best of luck. For such a big club we’ve never won it. We’ve had a really good underage system over the last 20 years but we wanted to break that stigma of just being an underage team and start winning trophies at senior level. It’s a huge day for the club and we’re really looking forward to it.
“Ringmahon are a really good football team. I’ve played with a lot of them, with Macca (Anthony McAlavey) at City and with a few of their lads with Cobh Ramblers, I know a lot of them. They’re good fellas, both teams really respect each other, we play similar ways, but we know it’s going to be a tough test and over the last few years it’s been very even.
“There’s never been a stage when one team has consistently rolled over the other team – it’s been consistently competitive. They’ve a good squad, a good bench, but so do we. Going into it, based on league position, they’ll be favourites, but we’re confident too. It’s going to be a tough game but we’re also very confident.”
Captain Interview: Ringmahon Rangers skipper Anthony McAlavey
“We feel we get a lot of support anyway regardless of the game, we had a couple of games behind closed doors and we had lads on ladders watching over fences and standing away in the distance on GAA pitches. My own dad and John Fitz, both have cancer, standing outside in the lashing rain, sharing an umbrella, standing next to the bus stop for shelter - that is something that will stick with me for a long time.
“So to go from that to getting to the biggest game of the year and the biggest you’ll get as an amateur player – it’s massive. So for our fans who supported us through those times and to come to Turner’s Cross is unbelievable so hopefully we can give them their just rewards for all the support we’ve had this year.
“We said from the start whether it be a league game or a cup game we’d take it game-by-game and see where it would take us. Now we’ve landed here, we’re in the final and hopefully we can go one further than last year.”
