With three Leinster Senior League sides left in the FAI Centenary Intermediate Cup, it is up to Rockmount to make sure it isn't an-all Leinster final as the semi-finals get underway this weekend.

Rockmount welcome Maynooth University Town to Rockmount Park on Saturday, April 16, with kick-off at 2pm in the FAI Centenary Intermediate Cup semi-finals.

Rockmount, who are currently top of the Munster Senior League Premier Division, will be looking to reach their first Intermediate Cup final since 2007/08, when they last lifted the title. They welcome a Maynooth University Town side who needed extra-time to get past Carrigaline United in the quarter-finals of the competition, ending 2-1 winners.

Rockmount manager Eddie Kenny has backed his team to reach their first final since 2007/08 on Saturday and believes the players are in great shape to do so.

"We're in good shape across the board, we've had Cian Leonard out for a few months but he is the only player set to be out. He's a huge loss of course, but the rest of the lads have really made up for it," said Kenny.

"We should be as strong as we can be. The players have been brilliant, the attitude has been excellent and they've really applied themselves all season.

"They've believed in the process and what we've asked from them in pre-season, and then continued that into the season. The attitude in training has always been good and that has matched how we want to play.

"We're hopeful of a big crowd, the Cork football community will come out and support us. When other teams have got into big games like this at the weekend, we'd be down there to support and I'd expect the same this weekend. It'll make a big difference and hopefully push us on to get a win."

The final, which is set to take place on the week ending Sunday, May 15, will see the winners of this tie face either Bluebell United or St. Francis, who face each other in the other semi-final on Saturday, April 16, with kick-off at 2pm.

Rockmount are the only non-Leinster Senior League representative left in the draw but manager Kenny is only focused on his team and believes Maynooth will be a difficult prospect.

"I was able to get up a watch Maynooth play Crumlin last week in the cup and they're a really good side. We've played Maynooth three times in the last five years or so, and we haven't come away with a result out of it yet, they're a good footballing team who play with a strong-forward line which break very fast," continued Kenny.

"We look after ourselves always, when it comes to the cup, whoever we're playing, we'll deal with it that week. Our bread and butter is the league and we've got a tough job trying to win it.

"There isn't pressure from inside the club to win the cup, it's my first year as the No.1 this year having been assistant for the last seven and we've been trying to get things right. Billy Cronin before me, we overhauled the squad and went with youth. We knew it would take time to come up but we're delighted with where we've got to.

"The intermediate cup is a huge competition but it is a bonus as well. The objective for us is the league. Once we got past Christmas and were in the mix, that was always the priority but it's a big game this weekend and we want to reach the final, that goes without saying."
