Transport Information

The stadium is easily reached by public transport.

Buses: 040 (Syntagma), 101 (Elliniko), 130 (Nea Smirni) X95 (Airport) all pass within walking distance of the stadium.

Metro: The Neo Faliro metro stop is at the stadium. It is on the green line (M1).

Public transport can get very busy as kick-off approaches so please leave plenty of time for your journey.  There is expected to be extended metro hours after the game but no further details yet.

The FAI requested the option of taxis or private buses accessing the away end but due to road closures, this was not possible to achieve. However, private taxis drop-off fans at various points around the stadium.

Airport: Most fans will arrive via Athens airport.  The city centre can be reached by Taxi taking approx. 40 minutes and should cost approx. €40 (day-time) - €55 (night-time).  Cheaper options from the airport include the metro which also takes approx. 40 minutes.  The single fare is €9 or €16 return.  Cheaper fares exist for students and OAPs whilst children U-6 go free.  You must purchase a ticket from the vending machines before boarding the train.  The X95 bus costs €5.50 (€2.70 for U18 & over 65) and takes approx. 60 minutes.  It can take much longer in peak traffic.  Tickets can be purchased in the arrivals office or on board.  The bus stop is outside Arrivals between exit 4 and exit 5.

Helpful Tips

Please note, Greek club football culture is very tribal and the Greek Federation expect most home fans at our game to be fans of Olympiacos.  Their fierce rivals Panathinaikos play in green and it would be considered very provocative by some locals if anyone walked around the Piraeus area wearing the shirt or emblem of their rivals.  Whilst we appreciate this is unlikely, the home association requested we point this out to our supporters.

The same scanning system in normal use in this stadium will be used for the October game.  The stadium has recently hosted the UEFA Super Cup Final and numerous games in European competitions accommodating visiting supporters.

Please note the emergency number in Greece is 112.

We recommend having a scan of your passport on your phone and in your email in case it gets lost or stolen.  This will aid having replacement travel documents issued.

The Irish Embassy is located at Leof. Vas. Konstantinou 7, 106 74 Athens, Greece (second floor). The public counter is open from 09:00 - 13:00, Monday to Friday.

If you require consular assistance the Irish embassy in Athens has an emergency voicemail that is monitored frequently.  Please call +30 210 723 2771

Please remember to behave in a way at all times that reflects the hugely positive image Irish football fans have at home and abroad.

SLO Observations

Some observations from your SLO attending a recent Olympiacos home game.

I sat in the main stand near block 29.  To access this area from the metro station involves walking most of the way around the stadium.  After the final whistle it took almost 15 minutes to reach the metro due to fans exiting various sections and going the opposite way.

Your SLO observed fans scanning pdf and mobile tickets and entering the stadium quickly.  There didn’t appear to be any scanning issues.

On the stadium concourse near the metro there were cafes serving snacks, soft drinks and cans of beer.

There are restaurants in the general area but are at least 1 KM walk from the stadium.
